  • Irena Šinko assumes office as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food

    Today, Minister Irena Šinko and outgoing Minister Jože Podgoršek completed the handover at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food. Jože Podgoršek thanked all colleagues for their constructive cooperation and encouraged them to maintain their love for the sector and continue to work enthusiastically. He wished his successor every success in her role at the helm of one of the most demanding sectors, in particular in the difficult period ahead. The new Minister thanked the outgoing Minister for his work so far and for a correct handover, wishing him every success in the future. She also presented the areas that will be crucial during her term in office.

  • Legal Files Created by Solicitor Dr. Lovro Toman

    Lovro Toman (1827-1870) is nowadays known as a poet and a politician, but his primary source of income was working as a solicitor. During his practice, Toman dealt with various legal matters, most of them similar to what solicitors deal with today. Most of the files of his law firm are now kept by the Archives of the Republic of Slovenia. He also dealt with legal matters of his extended family, namely his wife Josipina, born Urbančič, and her relatives, both during her life and after her untimely death. One of the more extensive files among his records refers to the division of inheritance among near and distant relatives and other rightful claimants of the late Ksaverija Jelovšek von Fichtenau, born Dietrich, who died intestate on April 20, 1811.

  • World No Tobacco Day: Tobacco also endangers the environment

    World No Tobacco Day is commemorated on 31 May. This year’s focus is on the harmful effects of tobacco on the environment under the slogan, Tobacco: Threat to Our Environment. To this end, the Ministry of Health together with the National Institute of Public Health, the WHO Regional Office for Europe and non-governmental organisations involved in tobacco today organised a national symposium on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day.

  • National Volunteer Week

    National Volunteer Week is organised every year in Slovenia in the month of May. The Slovene Philanthropy will organise it this year between 23 and 29 May. The purpose of the week is to celebrate voluntarism and thank the volunteers for their activities. Volunteer organisations will present their activities through various events, and invite visitors to join their ranks.

    On Wednesday, the National Assembly held a secret voting session and elected Robert Golob, president of the Gibanje Svoboda political party, the formateur of the new government. He was supported by 54 members of parliament; 30 voted against.
