Minister Dr Cerar hosts Ivan Brajović, President of the Parliament of Montenegro

Foreign Minister Dr Miro Cerar today met Ivan Brajović, President of the Parliament of Montenegro, who is paying an official visit to Slovenia. The constructive talks focused on bilateral relations, enhanced cooperation within NATO, EU enlargement, and Montenegro's progress on its path towards the EU, as well as regional cooperation and the situation in the region.

Minister Dr Cerar and Mr Brajović commented the excellent relations between the two traditionally friendly countries, which have no outstanding issues, and reaffirmed their mutual interest in continuing the positive trends in their wide-ranging cooperation.

The two countries also successfully participate in development cooperation, and Montenegro remains a programme priority of Slovenia’s development assistance. A number of projects have been implemented in Montenegro in recent years that raise the profile of Slovenia's development assistance.

The talks also focused on the cooperation between the two countries within NATO, and on Montenegro’s EU rapprochement, with Montenegro being the most successful candidate in negotiations with the EU. Slovenia reaffirmed its continued support for Montenegro provided within the bilateral technical assistance programme with the assistance of Slovenian experts. The President of the Parliament of Montenegro expressed gratitude for Slovenia's support and assistance in Montenegro's Euro-Atlantic integration.

In addition, they addressed the situation in the region, underscoring the importance of constructive relations with neighbouring countries and good regional cooperation.
