Minister Dr Cerar meets with President of the International Criminal Court Chile Eboe-Osuji

They exchanged views on the challenges, operation and role of courts, the MLA Initiative and other topical issues in international criminal justice. Their talks focused on the importance of cooperation between ICC member states, both in terms of providing funds for the Court’s operation and close cooperation in prosecuting perpetrators and ensuring assistance to victims.
Minister Cerar assured Judge Chile Eboe-Osuji that Slovenia remains a staunch supporter of the ICC and will continue to promote the Court and the Rome Statute values in its bilateral and multilateral activities. He stressed that Slovenia, as a promoter of the rule of law at a time when global cooperation and international institutions are facing increasing criticism and pressures, is firmly committed to upholding the crucial role of the ICC, not only in concrete cases, but also as a symbol of countries’ determination to fight impunity and prosecute the most serious crimes.
President of the ICC Eboe-Osuji commended Slovenia’s active and constant support for the work of the ICC, saying that it was a model for other countries. He went on to ask Minister Cerar for continued support in attracting new members and advocating the important role of the ICC in the framework of the EU agenda.
