Today, the State Secretary, Dobran Božič, took part in a working meeting of State Secretaries and Secretaries-General of EU Member States' Foreign Ministries, hosted by the Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Helga Schmid.
During the discussion on external dimensions of artificial intelligence, State Secretary Božič presented Slovenia’s activities within international organisations and the establishment of the UNESCO-sponsored International Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI) in Ljubljana, the first global project of its kind. He underlined the years-long research by the Jožef Stefan Institute to develop the Event Registry system, using European funds for research purposes. Special guest, Marko Grobelnik, a researcher in the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the Jožef Stefan Institute, is the Slovenian digital messenger at the European Commission and a member of the OECD Expert Group on artificial intelligence. He briefed the meeting on the activities of the OECD and the concrete capacities of the Event Registry system, using the example of the coronavirus.
On the margins of the working meeting, the State Secretary also held talks with the members of the European Commission: Marjeta Jager, Deputy Director-General for International Cooperation and Development, Michael Karnitschnig, Director for External Relations at the Secretariat General, Matjaž Malgaj, Head of Cabinet of Commissioner Janez Lenarčič, and Werner Stengg, Cabinet Member of Commissioner Margarethe Vestager.
