Reopening of the Holmec border crossing
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Government of the Republic of Slovenia
During the last days, Foreign Minister Logar led a coordinated diplomatic action aimed at reopening the Holmec border crossing. As part of the fight against the spread of the novel coronavirus, the Republic of Austria has decided to close down the border crossing.
However, Holmec is of key importance for the population of the Meža Valley and the neighbouring localities on both Slovenian and Austrian side of the border. Numerous Slovenian workers use it daily to reach their working places in Austria.
Speaking to Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, Minister Logar agreed on an exemption for the Holmec border crossing, which will be reopened on 6 April and remain open every day from 5.00 to 8.00 and from 15.00 to 18.00.
Agreeing to such an exemption shows Austria's flexibility and understanding of the needs of the border population. Slovenia sees it as a sign of good neighbourly collaboration in a critical time of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
