Minister Logar meeting US Congressman Gosar and Senator Klobuchar

During his visit to the US, Foreign Minister Anže Logar held talks with US Congressman Paul Gosar and Senator Amy Klobuchar today. Due to measures adopted by the Congress to control the COVID-19 pandemic, both meetings took place via video-conference.

Minister Logar expressed appreciation to Congressman Gosar and Senator Klobuchar, both of Slovenian descent, for having established the Friendship Group with Slovenia in the House of Representatives and at the US Senate, respectively, at the beginning of 2019. Stressing that such support within the highest representative body in the US is invaluable to Slovenia, he voiced the hope that both groups continue their activities in the 117th Congress, which begins on 3 January 2021.

The minister underlined the key significance that relations with the United States of America holds for Slovenia, and expressed his satisfaction with the recent strengthening of cooperation between the two countries. In his words, parliamentary democracy is an important complement to engagements at the intergovernmental level.

Minister Logar informed his hosts of the preparations for the Slovenian Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2021, giving assurance that particular attention would be devoted to consolidating transatlantic cooperation.

As the meeting drew to a close, he extended an invitation to Congressman Gosar and Senator Klobuchar to visit Slovenia, in their private capacity and as members of official Congress delegations.
