- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
On the margins of his visit to Rome, Foreign Minister Anže Logar met David M. Beasley, Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP). Minister Logar congratulated him on receiving the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to WFP for its efforts to combat hunger, its contribution to improving the conditions for peace in conflict zones, and for efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.
Minister Logar highlighted the importance of WFP for ensuring food security worldwide. In Slovenia’s view, WFP is one of its most effective humanitarian partners. The discussion focused on challenges facing WFP during the COVID-19 crisis and on the need for a strategic and focused approach in efforts to ensure food security. Minister Logar and Executive Director Beasley went on to discuss possibilities for cooperation during the Slovenian EU Council Presidency, the connection between food security and migration, and between food security and water. Water will also feature high on the agenda of the Slovenian Presidency.
