Prime Minister Janez Janša with Taiwanese Minister of Health and Welfare on the fight against the covida-19 pandemic
The Prime Minister’s office reported that they had exchanged views and good practices in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Janez Janša also thanked his counterpart for Taiwan’s selfless donation of protective face masks to Slovenia in April 2020.
In the first wave of the epidemic in April last year, when there was a shortage of protective equipment all over Europe, Taiwan donated 150,000 protective surgical masks to Slovenia. The shipment was handed over to the Slovenian Civil Protection Service by the state mission in Vienna on behalf of the Taiwanese government.
Taiwan is among those countries which were most successful in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Strict border controls were introduced early on and they closely monitor the contacts of infected persons. So far, according to the Worldometer data, in Taiwan, which has a population of about 23 million, 819 new coronavirus infections have been confirmed, eight COVID-19 patients have died and 700 patients have recovered.
