- Permanent Representation to the European Union Brussels
State Secretary Dovžan and Undersecretary Amendola highlighted the friendly relations and extensive cooperation between Slovenia and Italy. State Secretary Dovžan briefed his Italian colleague on the priorities of the Slovenian EU Council Presidency in the second half of the year. According to him, one of the Slovenian Presidency's top priorities will be strengthening the Union's resilience. He stressed the need for the EU to deal more effectively with various types of crises, which, by their nature or scale, exceed the capacities of an individual Member State and therefore require a common response at the EU level.
The two high officials also drew attention to the recovery of the European economy, and to national recovery plans. They also exchanged views on the “Fit for 55” climate and energy package, which will be presented at the beginning of the Slovenian Presidency. They went on to discuss migration, with State Secretary Dovžan outlining Slovenia’s work towards progress in the negotiations on the Pact on Migration and Asylum. State Secretary Dovžan and Undersecretary Amendola also touched on the debate on the future of Europe.
