The 76th anniversary of the United Nations
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Permanent Mission of the Republic of Slovenia to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva
Slovenia is committed to strengthening effective and rules-based multilateralism, with the UN at the core, which is based on the inseparable connection and mutual complementarity of peace, security, development and human rights while respecting international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. As the presiding country of the Council of the EU, Slovenia aims at establishing cooperation between the themes of the UN and four content sets of the Presidency while straining every sinew to realise the common EU priorities since only together can we overcome global challenges.
Last year’s 75th anniversary of the UN launched a global debate on the Future We Want. UN Secretary-General António Guterres summarised the findings in the Our Common Agenda report that was published before the beginning of this year’s General Assembly, showcasing the major challenges of the present day and calling for collective action to prevent future crises.
On Friday, 22 October 2021, a celebration was held at the Municipality of Slovenj Gradec in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to mark two important anniversaries, i.e. last year’s 75th anniversary of the UN and the upcoming 30th anniversary of Slovenia’s UN membership.
The activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the UN were presented at the event, such as the release of a publication covering milestones from its establishment until the current day. The Slovenian President Borut Pahor gave the keynote speech. Ambassador Igor Jukič, Acting Director-General of the Directorate for Multilateral Affairs and Development Cooperation, attended the event on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
