Minister Logar and Minister Sheikh Al Thani reaffirmed their mutual interest in strengthening economic cooperation, agreeing that the 2nd session of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation will be held in early 2022. “We see opportunities for strengthening cooperation of Slovenian companies in logistics, energy, tourism, and information and communications technology. I am convinced that our Qatari partners can make full use of the Slovenian knowledge, technology and development of high-tech solutions connected with renewable energy sources, water, and waste management and treatment,” underlined Minister Logar at the press conference after the official talks.
The Ministers exchanged views on current foreign policy issues in the wider region, particularly on the situation in Afghanistan and Iran. On the subject of Iran, they stressed support for the resumption of nuclear talks in Vienna in relation to the international agreement on the Iranian nuclear programme (JCPOA).
The Republic of Slovenia and the State of Qatar have developed good and friendly relations and the two countries have enhanced their political dialogue with exchange visits, including on the highest level. On the margins of the UN General Assembly in September 2021, Slovenian President Borut Pahor met with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, who will be visiting Slovenia in 2022.
