On the 70th anniversary of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), State Secretary Stanislav Raščan took part in a hybrid meeting of the IOM Council in Geneva via videolink. The high-level panel focussed on the impact of COVID-19 on borders, migration and mobility.
In his address at the meeting, State Secretary Raščan stressed that long-term strategies should be based on comprehensive migration partnerships, strengthening resilience and multilateral cooperation, including crucial access to vaccines. He reaffirmed Slovenia’s commitment to joint efforts to overcome the pandemic, where vaccine donations, ensuring access to vaccination for refugees and asylum seekers, addressing the underlying causes of migration, and reducing poverty all have a part to play.
More than 40 countries participated in the IOM Council meeting.
