- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The high officials exchanged views on Slovenia’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2024–2025 term, on major issues in the UN on the eve of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, and on the priorities the two countries have designated for the session.
In the talks with Deputy Assistant Secretary Escobar, the focus was on the Western Balkans, particularly the region’s progress towards Euro-Atlantic integration and the main challenges that remain on its road to greater stability, security and economic development. Žbogar and Escobar agreed that the Western Balkan countries need strong and unified messages, and reaffirmed their support as they continue on their path towards integration into the EU and NATO. They went on to express their satisfaction with the progress achieved in the Kosovo-Serbia talks, and their hope that any outstanding issues will soon be resolved. Another topic of the talks was the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
