Prime Minister Dr Robert Golob attends an informal meeting of members of the European Council in Prague
The proposal, which was further developed with concrete steps, thus received wide support today. "These steps will have a significant impact on reducing natural gas and electricity prices and will help reduce inflation and preserve jobs," the Prime Minister said.
Before today’s meeting at Prague Castle, the Slovenian Prime Minister pointed out that yesterday’s first summit of the European Political Community was successful, as it confirmed unity on all important issues: "Unity has spread from the EU to other countries present yesterday." He also expressed his expectation that a decisive step forward would be taken in the area of energy prices and would be finally coordinated in two weeks’ time at the formal meeting of the European Council in Brussels.
"There is a high level of consensus among EU countries on the need to intervene in the natural gas market and to achieve price regulation or a dynamic price cap. However, such intervention has to be EU-wide and must be clearly communicated. In regulating prices, we will not forget the candidate countries for EU membership, which are mostly net importers of electricity. It is our duty to make sure that their import costs are also manageable, otherwise their economies will collapse first at the beginning of next year," added Dr Golob.
