Panel discussion in Croatia
The event was attended by representatives of the lead partner from the Ministry of the Interior, the Croatian Civil Protection; representatives of the project partner from the Ministry of the Interior, the Directorate for Emergency Situations of Montenegro; and representatives of the Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief. In addition to the above, representatives of some Croatian rescue services, state authorities and associations, and societies of disabled people's organizations also participated in the panel discussion.
The aim of the panel discussion was to provide an overview of the current situation of the treatment of people with disabilities in the event of natural and other disasters in Croatia, and to provide input for the development of guidelines for the inclusion of the needs of people with disabilities in prevention, planning and response activities in the event of natural and other disasters, as well as to exchange practices among the participating partners. Three separate discussions were held on the treatment of people with sensory, physical, intellectual disabilities. The discussions showed that each group of people with disabilities has different limitations, reacting differently in disasters or in situations that are not commonplace, which makes it impossible to develop a single model for how first responders should approach these people. Concrete starting points for the further development of the project were provided.
