The reformation of Christian church, which started in Wittenberg, Germany in 16th century, brought about the first book in Slovenian language. Katekizem was written in 1550 by Primož Trubar, a central figure of reformation in Slovenian lands, who wanted ordinary people to follow religious rituals in their own language. This was a significant contribution to the development of Slovenian language and literature.
