Human Rights Day: Call for full respect of human rights for all
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
This year, human rights continued to be a priority of Ministry of Foreign Affairs activity. We reached important international milestones in the field of connecting questions of the right to a healthy, clean and sustainable environment and human rights as well asin our endeavours to improve protection of human rights of older persons on a global level. Slovenian diplomacy also protected women's human rights and supported their complete inclusion in political, security, economic, development and other processes at all levels.
The preamble to the Declaration states that "recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world". Human rights are universal, indivisible and equal for all, and on Human Rights Day, we call for their full respect.
The Declaration is still regarded as an ideal, a standard and a goal in the human rights field. Slovenia will always support the protection of and respect for human rights around the world, strive to eliminate their violation, fight against impunity and work to ensure accountability for these violations. Slovenia is running for a seat on the Human Rights Council, which is a central intergovernmental body within the United Nations system in this field, for the 2026-2028 term.
