State Secretary Štucin meets Minister for Europe Docherty in London for consultations
State Secretary Štucin and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Docherty were pleased to note the friendly and diversified relations between Slovenia and the United Kingdom in politics, the economy, culture, education, security, etc. They agreed that the two countries are partners and allies in various international fora, sharing common values and similar interests on many issues and policies.
They also exchanged views on current foreign policy issues, focusing on the situation in the Western Balkans and Ukraine, including accountability for war crimes. In this context, State Secretary Štucin mentioned the diplomatic conference for the adoption of the MLA Convention (Convention on International Cooperation in the Investigation and Prosecution of the Crime of Genocide, Crimes against Humanity and War Crimes), which will take place in Ljubljana in May 2023. They also discussed EU-UK relations and were satisfied with the political agreement in principle that has been reached, i.e. the Windsor Framework.
In London, State Secretary Štucin also met the Earl of Kinnoull, Chair of the European Union Committee of the House of Lords; Pedro Serrano, European Union Ambassador to the United Kingdom; and Olaf Henricson-Bell, EU Director at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. The State Secretary is also expected to meet with Stephen Doughty, Shadow Minister for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and International Development.
