Meeting between Minister Dr Papič and the Director for Democratic Participation at the Council of Europe, Matjaž Gruden
The activities of the Council of Europe bring a qualitative and highly in-depth approach to current issues in the international arena. The organisation is setting up a meeting in Strasbourg this September of ministers responsible for education. The two sides agreed that the two institutions should continue their active cooperation in the areas under the responsibility of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation. They paid particular attention to the role of higher education and the democratic mission of higher education institutions.
In the light of rapid developments in artificial intelligence, the Council of Europe is also actively working to ensure that ethical principles and values, such as human rights to security and privacy, are upheld, with a particular focus on the protection of vulnerable groups. The participants agreed that the efforts of the Council of Europe and the Member States in this area are of the utmost importance. At the end of a fruitful exchange, they expressed their satisfaction with the cooperation so far and agreed to continue it into the future.
