Political consultations with Argentina
During the consultations, State Secretary Žbogar and Secretary Tettamanti reviewed bilateral relations, in particular the strengthening of political and economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in science and research. Last year, during the visit of Minister Tanja Fajon to Argentina, the two countries signed an economic cooperation agreement, and now it is time to take further steps, including the establishment of a joint commission. The two high officials confirmed that Slovenia and Argentina share common views on a number of issues, such as respect for and promotion of human rights, international law and feminist foreign policy.
In the discussion on multilateral issues, the focus was on strengthening the functioning of international organisations and their mechanisms. In this context, State Secretary Žbogar presented Slovenia's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, where Argentina has extensive experience. Žbogar and Tettamanti also exchanged views on the topical issues in the international community, particularly in Europe and Latin America, and discussed relations between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean, with an emphasis on strengthening trade relations between the two regions.
