State Secretary Štucin in Kosovo for consultations
The high officials exchanged views on bilateral relations, the current situation in Kosovo and the region, and Euro-Atlantic integration processes. They agreed that Slovenia and Kosovo enjoy positive and friendly bilateral relations and pointed to the possibility of strengthening cooperation, especially on the economy.
State Secretary Štucin assured his hosts that Slovenia will continue to pay special attention to the Western Balkans and the EU enlargement process. "Slovenia stands ready to continue to support Kosovo in its efforts to cement its status in the international community. At the same time, Kosovo is expected to consistently honour its commitments and implement the agreements reached, as well as playing a constructive role in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and regional relations," State Secretary Štucin said.
Particular attention was devoted to the security situation in the north of Kosovo and to the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, with State Secretary Štucin affirming Slovenia's support for EU mediation in the dialogue. In the context of the recent escalation of the situation in the north of Kosovo and of the statement by High Representative Borrell, speaking on behalf of the EU, State Secretary Štucin expressed grave concern about the recent acts of violence against KFOR members and media representatives in the north of Kosovo, urging an immediate de-escalation of tensions.
On the margins of the consultations, the State Secretary also met Head of the EU Office in Kosovo Tomáš Szunyog and Head of the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX Kosovo) Lars-Gunnar Wigemark.
