State Secretary Štucin holds consultation with Spain’s State Secretary
They spoke about the rule of law, efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the European economy, economic governance and the interim review of the multiannual financial framework, and the future of Europe. They also discussed the possibilities for more effective decision-making on the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy and the search for pragmatic solutions within the scope of the existing EU treaties. Other topics on their agenda included migration, control of the EU’s external borders, solidarity among EU member states in regard to migration management, the Schengen area and abolition of internal border controls. State Secretary Štucin emphasised the importance of a fully functioning Schengen area.
The two officials also exchanged views on EU enlargement. State Secretary Štucin highlighted the importance of the enlargement process to the Western Balkans and expressed his support for the European perspective in the countries of the region.
