State Secretary Štucin meets with UK Minister for Europe Docherty
State Secretary Štucin and Minister Docherty confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening bilateral relations between Slovenia and the United Kingdom. They highlighted the partnership and alliance in various international fora and welcomed the regular political dialogue at various levels, including between the senior representatives of the foreign ministries of the two countries.
They exchanged views on current foreign policy issues, focusing on developments in the Western Balkans, with State Secretary Štucin recalling the Bled Commitment of the European Council President, which foresees the readiness of both sides – the EU and the Western Balkan countries – for enlargement by 2030. "Slovenia is working to ensure that the countries of the region receive more tangible commitments at the EU Summit in December", Štucin underlined.
Their discussion also touched on Slovenia's non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for the 2024–2025 term, with Minister Docherty expressing his willingness to work closely with Slovenia to ensure peace and security in Europe. The discussion concluded with the situation in Ukraine and migration.
