Poklukar and Spasovski confirm excellent cooperation between the two friendly countries
Cooperation between the two countries, ministries and police forces has traditionally been excellent, the Ministers agreed. "Today, we have further reinforced our cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in development assistance between the Ministries of the Interior of the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of North Macedonia," said the Slovenian Minister. Following the signing of the Memorandum, Slovenia will donate helicopter components and spare parts to North Macedonia. "This will contribute to the modernisation of their police force and improvement of police performance in certain areas, including search and rescue," said Mr Poklukar, adding that the two ministers and their delegations would also visit the Air Support Unit at Brnik tomorrow.
The main topic of the meeting was migration management, with an emphasis on irregular migration management. "The Republic of North Macedonia has been very successful in this area, and its police units cooperate very well with the members of the European Border and Coast Guard units, which also include Slovenian police officers," said Mr Poklukar. They also praised the good police cooperation, especially in the fight against organised crime and the fight against smuggling and trafficking in human beings.
The Ministers also discussed North Macedonia's progress towards the European Union. "The Republic of North Macedonia is our partner. Like Slovenia, it is a member of NATO, and I am convinced that it will join us in the European Union," said Mr Poklukar, while expressing his sincere gratitude for the selfless and prompt assistance provided after the catastrophic floods in August. Minister Spasovski thanked his Slovenian host for his exceptional hospitality and for his clear support for Slovenia on their path to the European Union.
In the evening, the two ministers will also attend an event organised by the Embassy of the Republic of North Macedonia in Slovenia, where the Minister of the Interior, Boštjan Poklukar, will address the gathering. "This is an event of great importance for both countries, as it marks the strong diplomatic and friendly ties between our countries and the excellent cooperation in all fields," concluded Mr Poklukar.
