Visit by State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia Tosevski
At the beginning of their meeting, the two state secretaries expressed satisfaction with the successful cooperation between Slovenia and North Macedonia, which is also reflected in regular bilateral visits at the highest levels. They agreed that bilateral cooperation has been established in virtually all areas, for which there is also an appropriate legal basis.
The talks continued with a focus on EU enlargement and further support for North Macedonia on its European path. State Secretary Štucin assured his counterpart that Slovenia would continue to assist North Macedonia in its efforts to adapt to European standards, including by exchanging experience and transferring Slovenian know-how. State Secretary Tosevski presented the process of screening the Macedonian legislation and its alignment with the EU acquis, as well as the challenges facing North Macedonia in the EU accession process.
The current situation in Ukraine and the Western Balkans was also among the topics discussed. In this context, the two sides stressed that EU enlargement is an important incentive for countries to implement reforms, with State Secretary Štucin adding that the enlargement policy ensures stability in the region, which is very important in the current tense geopolitical situation, and that the countries in the region need to be provided with a clear European perspective.
