Minister Jevšek in Brussels: ''GO! 2025 is a unique example of cross-border cooperation''
‘’In 2025, for the first time in history, the title of the European Capital of Culture will be held by two closely connected cross-border cities! The municipalities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia submitted a joint application and won the title to become the first cross-border European Capital of Culture. This is a unique example of cross-border cooperation,’’ stressed Minister Jevšek.
According to the Minister, GO! 2025 upgrades the Integrated Territorial Investments mechanism which is an integrated approach to the planning and implementation of sustainable urban development investments.
‘’Slovenia and Italy have secured funding in their Cohesion Policy programmes for the cross-border project GO! 2025 and for investments focused on developing the wider cross-border area, including the renovation of the cross-border Europe Square. Slovenia’s Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 recognises the strategic importance of this project,’’ stressed the Minister.
He also underscored that the common slogan of the project GO! BORDERLESS embodies, in the best possible way, the mission of cross-border cooperation in all fields. The creative cross-border city has a strong green character, boasting the hinterland of the beautiful Soča River Valley and an exceptionally rich cultural heritage.
Minister Jevšek also spoke about cross-border cooperation and the GO! 2025 project at the conference More Europe in Cross-Border Regions that was held in the European Parliament.
