Message by Prime Minister Robert Golob on the occasion of National Sovereignty Day
Prime Minister Robert Golob marks Sovereignty Day with these words: It has been 32 years since we became a sovereign country and were given the exclusive authority to take control of our own territory.
Regrettably, despite our commitments, the principle of sovereignty, one of the key principles of international law, is still being violated today. Around the world and in our own neighbourhood, the territorial integrity of States is being undermined by arbitrary, partial interests that run counter to the idea of solidarity, cooperation and integration for the benefit of the human community. While we have an independent state, many, like the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, can only dream of one. Let us celebrate this important day with pride and let us honour the memory of all those who fought for an independent state.
Above all, let us remember that the true essence of independence lies in a nation’s historic unity and strength.
