At its 85th regular session, the Government, on behalf of the founder and sole shareholder of the STA, concluded a contract on the provision of public service by the STA in 2024, and authorised the Director of the Government Communication Office, Petra Bezjak Cirman, to sign and implement the agreement. The value of the contract is EUR 2,397,000, an increase of EUR 125,000 compared to 2023, or up by 5.5%.

At the signing ceremony, the STA’s Director Igor Kadunc thanked all those involved in the process of approving the slightly higher amount available to the STA than in 2023.  "We know that this means a lot at a time when the Government is facing increased expectations on all sides. The approved amount represents both an opportunity and a commitment for us to continue our quality work," he stressed, adding that the STA is aware of the importance of providing comprehensive and correct public information. "This is also our commitment to our other clients, who enable us to obtain additional revenue. We are also active in fundraising by participating in various European and domestic projects that allow us to keep abreast of new developments, including in the field of artificial intelligence and modern technologies," Director Kadunc noted.

Director Bezjak Cirman stressed that the STA is an extremely important public media resource in Slovenia, making information about the most important events at home and around the world accessible to all. She added that the Government will continue to work for media freedom and independent media operations.

In accordance with the Slovenian Press Agency Act, the STA provides a public service of continuous, comprehensive, accurate and objective coverage of events in Slovenia and around the world to meet the needs of both the domestic and foreign public. It is the duty of the Slovenian Government, which exercises the company member’s rights on behalf of the Republic of Slovenia, to ensure the STA's institutional autonomy, editorial independence and adequate funding for the comprehensive and seamless provision of its public service, based on the STA's annual business plan.
