Prime Minister Golob: "You work miracles. You give hope."
The reception was attended by the representatives of the Slovenian Armed Forces, the Police, the Civil Protection, NGOs, social work centres, the National Institute of Public Health, the State Technical Office and the Mountain Rescue Service, and rescuers, cavers, divers, firefighters, mayors and many others.
"On the Sunday following the flood, I started to believe that we can perform miracles, that we can emerge from this a stronger nation. You work miracles. You give hope. Thank you," the Prime Minister said, adding that, because of their selfless acts, many people now sleep more peacefully. "I believe that we will be able to sleep soundly in the future as well," he stressed.
The floods in August led to a remarkable display of people’s solidarity, demonstrating how well prepared all the organisations are to respond rapidly to natural disasters. The Prime Minister said that the Government had provided the legal basis for reimbursing the cost of interventions and for post-flood rehabilitation and reconstruction, including the consequences of landslides. "I hope that such interventions will be kept to a minimum and that rehabilitation measures will help prevent the worst in the future. Unfortunately, this cannot be done overnight," the Prime Minister concluded.
