The open call will close on 15 March 2024 and is open to candidates from both Slovenia and abroad. The recipient will be selected by the Golden Bee Award Committee and presented with a sculpture by the President of the Republic of Slovenia on 20 May 2024 in Slovenia.

The Golden Bee Award promotes the innovation and excellence of individuals or legal persons who have contributed significantly to enhancing projects aiming to promote bees and other pollinators and raise their visibility, while raising awareness of their long-term importance.

With the Golden Bee Award, the Republic of Slovenia promotes World Bee Day, encourages the transfer of knowledge and technologies, and increases Slovenia's global visibility as a green, healthy, proactive and innovative country.

In 2024, the international Golden Bee Award will be presented for the fourth time. Previous recipients of the award are Prof. Lucas Alejandro Garibaldi for the promotion of bees and other pollinators, Boštjan Noč for the preservation of bees and other pollinators, and Dr Slobodan Davidović for the research on bees and other pollinators.
