''We live in a rapidly changing world that needs fundamental transformation of the economy. This is key to creating a more sustainable, resilient, and fairer world for the well-being of present and future generations. To this end, the Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport is developing an action plan to enhance the competitiveness and productivity of Slovenia's economy. Other line ministries are working towards sustainable economy through a number of measures as well,’’ explained Minister Jevšek.
''EU cohesion policy is a very important source of investments. A significant part of cohesion policy funds is earmarked for promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional ICT connectivity. In the 2021-2027 period, the relevant funding is primarily available under Policy objective 1, A Smart Europe. The latter aims to support development, enhance research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies, support digitalisation, and strengthen growth and competitiveness of SMEs with over 720 million euros available for this purpose. Funding opportunities are also under Policy objective 2 which primarily supports the green transition. Around 800 million euros is available for this purpose,’’ recalled Minister Jevšek.
The Minister also spoke about the regulation for Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP) which is the common European action to boost investments in critical technologies in Europe. ‘’STEP also introduces a new Sovereignty Seal - an EU label for high-quality projects that meet STEP objectives and can be financed by the EU, also through combined funding. Access to cohesion policy funds will be facilitated for the projects that have been awarded the Sovereignty Seal, and a 100% co-financing rate will apply to STEP priorities,'' he said.
Minister Jevšek concluded his speech by saying: ''When talking about development, the twin transition, and increasing added value, we still have a lot of work in front of us. And a lot of opportunities, for that matter. If we wish to be successful as a country and a society, then we need to strive for an active cooperation between the government, the businesses, the science, and the civil society; we need to motivate, activate, and bring together the people who have the vision and the knowledge to deliver on that vision, and we need to harness all available resources.’’
