Presenting economic diplomacy to members of the Centre of Excellence for Modern Control Technologies

On the first day of the consultations, economic advisers from diplomatic missions and consular posts visited Maribor to participate in the Slovenian Global Forum: 6th Conference on the Internationalisation of the Slovenian Economy. In the afternoon, B2B meetings were held between the advisers and representatives of companies attending the conference who had previously expressed an interest.

The first day of the consultations, 3 June, took them to Maribor for the Slovenian Global Forum: 6th Conference on the Internationalisation of the Slovenian Economy, hosted by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon and Minister of the Economy, Tourism and Sport Matjaž Han. In the afternoon, B2B meetings were organised between economic advisers and representatives of companies present at the conference who had expressed an interest in participating.

The second day of the consultations was held at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in Ljubljana. The economic advisers were addressed by Minister Fajon, who thanked the entire team of economic diplomats, both at Slovenian missions abroad and at home, for their commitment over the past period. She stressed that economic diplomacy remains at the heart of the Ministry's work, which is reflected in its many activities abroad, most recently in the largest ever business delegation visiting China. Of particular importance in this context is the promotion of Slovenian excellence in the aerospace and nuclear sectors, tourism and, last but not least, in strengthening air connectivity, which were also the main themes of this year's event. The Minister highlighted four areas and objectives that are important for the focus and planning of economic diplomacy activities: membership of the Security Council, which strengthens internationalisation and diversification; support for the economy in the green transition and digital transformation; presentation of Slovenian excellence with a view to creating more added value; strengthening the Ministry's activities in the field of science diplomacy; and support for their work, especially by strengthening the network of diplomatic missions and consular posts and through training.

In consultation with experts and relevant ministries (Ministry of the Economy, Tourism and Sport, Slovenian Tourist Board, Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia, SRIP - Circular Economy, Commission for the Prevention of Corruption), the economic diplomats focused on strengthening Slovenia's international profile in the context of tourism promotion, with an emphasis on air connectivity, the macroeconomic overview of the situation in Slovenia and the world, activities and presentation of good practices in science diplomacy and Slovenian excellence in the field of space technologies at the time of Slovenia's accession to the European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere (ESO) and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).

The consultations at the Ministry focused on the work plans of the economic advisers in the light of the issues presented. Slobodan Šešum, Director-General for Economic and Public Diplomacy, presented the activities carried out in the field of economic diplomacy, outlined a number of good practices in promoting the Strategic Research and Innovation Partnership - Networks for the transition into circular economy (SRIP), science and innovation, and presented the common orientations for future economic diplomacy activities.

The second day of this year’s Consultations of economic advisers was closed by State Secretary Marko Štucin, who also participated in the consultations at the Ministry.
