108th regular session of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia

At today's session, the Government decided to extend the temporarily reintroduced controls at the borders with Croatia and Hungary until 21 December 2024. It also adopted amendments to the Mining Act and new amendments to the Decree on the method of determining and calculating the contribution for ensuring support for the production of electricity from high-efficiency cogeneration and renewable energy sources.

The temporary controls at Slovenia's borders with Croatia and Hungary were extended for a period of six months, i.e. until and including 21 December 2024. Slovenian security authorities are closely monitoring potential risks and the security situation in the country and the wider region. They regularly exchange information with the authorities of other countries, the competent EU agencies and international organisations. The Slovenian Police are taking all necessary measures to prevent, detect and investigate illegal migration, including the detection of organised crime groups involved in people smuggling. The temporary controls at the borders with Croatia and Hungary will continue to be carried out so as to not adversely affect travellers, the environment, the economy and people living near the border.

The Government agreed on the text of the proposal for the Act Amending the Mining Act and will send it to the National Assembly. It will propose that the Act be discussed by the shortened procedure, as the amendments are minor. The aims of amendments to the Mining Act are to ensure a sufficient number of mining inspectors, to prevent activities outside the approved extraction areas and to prevent operators responsible for mining works from carrying out such works on land where they have no right to do so. The amendments will also harmonise the level of educational qualifications required for mining inspectors with the applicable higher education study programmes.

The Government issued a Decree amending the Decree on the method of determining and calculating the contribution for ensuring support for the production of electricity from high-efficiency cogeneration and renewable energy sources, and will publish it in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia. Due to the postponement of the new method of calculating network charges from 1 July 2024 to 1 October 2024, the introduction of the new method of determining the RES and cogeneration contribution under the aforementioned Decree must also be postponed.
