Message from Prime Minister Robert Golob on the occasion of Statehood Day on 25 of June

Slovenia is making its mark beyond our planet.
Prime Minister Robert Golob

Prime Minister Robert Golob

Fellow citizens, Slovenians at home and abroad,

33 years have passed since we set out on the path of statehood. We took a step that was not without risk, but we were brave and determined to live differently. In a free society based on human rights, the rule of law and, above all, solidarity and mutual respect.

Let us celebrate proudly. Everything we have achieved in this time as individuals, as a nation and as a country has fused into a success story. Our standing in the international community is growing, as demonstrated by our membership of the UN Security Council and our country's role in peace efforts in Europe and the Middle East. We are also known for our commitment to sustainable development, nature conservation and excellence in tourism.

Life in Slovenia is safe. We are a knowledge-based society, and high value-added foreign investment is pouring in. Economic growth is stable, we have successfully brought inflation below the EU average and unemployment is at historically low levels. Under this government, pensions and the minimum wage have also risen.

But a country is not just numbers – it is people who build it. During this time, we have also grown as a society. Our athletes are admired around the world for their achievements. Slovenian artists enrich our culture with their excellent creations and our scientists contribute to the development of many fields of research with their knowledge at home and abroad.

Although we are not a large country in terms of population, we have shown time and again that it is big, extraordinary visions that make us competitive. And we can always reach further. Yes, even into space. A week ago, Slovenia became a full member of the European Space Agency. This has opened up new areas of international cooperation for our companies and research institutions, and Slovenia will now be able to make its mark beyond our planet.

All this makes me proud and aware that we are a community that is not afraid of challenges. We chose the path of independence in 1991 and we should be proud of what we have achieved. Let this day be a symbol of our shared enthusiasm for creating opportunities and making wise choices for a better world. On this national holiday, Statehood Day, I wish you first and foremost peace and prosperity. Let the successes that enrich our country serve as inspiration for all that we can achieve together.

Good luck, Slovenia, and have a wonderful celebration!

Robert Golob,

Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia
