Civil Protection Commander Srečko Šestan activates national emergency plan for fire in Karst region

A fire broke out this morning in the Karst region of Trstelj. Strong winds caused the fire to spread over the entire hill and move towards Nova Gorica. At 10:34 a.m., RS Civil Protection Commander Srečko Šestan activated the National Protection and Rescue Plan for the event of a major fire in the natural environment.

A significant number of firefighters from the northern Primorska and Obalno-Kraška regions are on the scene. The national aerial firefighting unit Airtractor, a helicopter from the Slovenian Armed Forces and airborne police units are helping to extinguish the fire.

Residents and people in the affected area are advised to strictly follow the recommendations of the rescue teams and the Slovenian Civil Protection and Disaster Relief Administration (in Slovenian), as well as the fire safety advice (in Slovenian) and the instructions from the National Institute of Public Health (in Slovenian).
