Prime Minister Golob: "We believe in the same values, we share common goals, we have trust in each other"
At a press conference after the coalition summit, Prime Minister Golob said: "We are about half-way through our term. The outcome of today’s coalition summit is not only an overview of the work done so far but mainly the determination of priorities and goals to be achieved by the end of this term." He noted that, three years ago, the Government had set ambitious aims, which required time for fulfilment. "We set two terms worth of aims because we believe that changes in Slovenia are necessary and that the voters deserve these changes to be implemented."
The Prime Minister went on to say that Slovenia was among the first European countries that managed to reduce the yearly inflation rate below 1%. He also highlighted the encouraging employment figures. "Slovenia has one of the highest employment rates and one of the lowest unemployment rates. Workers’ salaries are growing faster than inflation, which enables real income growth, retaining our place among the countries with the lowest at-risk-of-poverty rates."
In his statement, the Prime Minister also called attention to the coalition’s key starting points and vision. "The vision and aims that we have set today can be summed up in very simple terms in two areas. The main area, which we will never neglect and which requires continuous, daily efforts, is the fight for democracy and rule of law," he said. The second is the set of Government priorities that will be pursued vigorously through the end of our term.
Healthcare remains the coalition’s prime concern. The Prime Minister explained that the Government’s focus was on ensuring better availability and quality of services. "Yesterday a key step was made with the presentation of the Health Services Act that will ensure the successful separation of private initiative from the public healthcare network," said the Prime Minister.
Furthermore, the Government is intensively working on the housing policy, which, according to the Prime Minister, is of incredible importance for ensuring that young people can make a home for themselves as quickly as possible. "I believe this is the way not only to retain those who are thinking of moving abroad, but also to improve our demographics successfully," he said.
Prime Minister Golob underlined the domain of knowledge, which will receive additional support in the coming months, both financial and legislative. "We want to build foundations for new generations," he said, adding that these would rest on respect for young people’s diversity, as well as their freedom and autonomy.
As regards the upcoming wage reform and tax changes, the Prime Minister explained that these were the prerequisites for ensuring the efficient operation of the public sector. All of this will be reflected in the budget, which will be drafted and approved by the Government in the next few weeks, said Prime Minister Golob.
According to the Prime Minister, the coalition summit was dedicated to coming together and setting clear priorities. "I strongly believe that, in the next few months, we will prove what we have proven today. That we believe in the same values, that we know how to recognise our common goals and that we have trust in each other, which will be the basis for achieving what we have set out to do," concluded Prime Minister Robert Golob.
