Minister Fajon: Slovenia to continue efforts to stabilise northeast Syria and Iraq
"Daesh remains a threat to international peace and stability. Its resurgence in parts of Africa and Central Asia is deeply concerning," said Minister Fajon on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting. Ministers emphasised the need to adapt to new challenges in the fight against Daesh/ISIS, particularly in preventing financing and propaganda of terrorism. "Our counter-terrorism and prevention strategies will not succeed unless they involve women and young people at every stage. Slovenia is contributing to stabilisation efforts in northeast Syria and Iraq by funding demining projects and restoring basic living conditions for the local population. We have committed nearly half a million euros to projects implemented by ITF Enhancing Human Security. I am pleased to announce that Slovenia will further increase its investment in stability in these regions in 2025," added Minister Fajon.
Ministers and senior representatives of the Coalition partners expressed their support for the Iraqi Government in implementing reforms, ensuring security and development, and commended its cooperation and contributions in countering Daesh/ISIS. They endorsed joint efforts by Coalition partners to finance and implement stabilisation measures in areas of Iraq and Syria previously occupied by Daesh. They also stressed the importance of prosecuting terrorists and ensuring the effective reintegration of displaced civilians from camps in northeast Syria.
During today's Meeting, Ministers will adopt a joint statement, committing Coalition partners to continue coordinated action against Daesh, in accordance with the UN Charter, international humanitarian law and all relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
