President of the Republic of Slovenia at the Diplomatic Academy: Slovenia is a respected partner in the international community
“Slovenia is not an isolated island in the ocean; as a small country, it must actively participate in international processes,” emphasised President Pirc Musar. She also expressed her gratitude and praise for the highly professional work of Slovenian diplomacy, which has led to Slovenia being recognised in the international community as an honest partner willing to contribute to solving current European and international challenges. In her overview lecture, President Pirc Musar shared her views and experiences on the enlargement of the European Union, the reform of the United Nations Security Council, the response to climate change and the regulation of artificial intelligence.
In her opening address, Minister Tanja Fajon expressed particular pleasure that the Ministry was hosting the President of the Republic for the first time, providing a unique opportunity to discuss all current foreign policy challenges with Slovenian diplomats. “We have a very good working relationship with the President’s Office, with a regular exchange of views and positions, which significantly contributes to Slovenia speaking with one voice on the international stage, for peace and for diplomatic dialogue. That is why our diplomacy is both consistent and respected, as demonstrated by Slovenia's successful presidency of the United Nations Security Council,” emphasised Minister Fajon.
The Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MFEA), founded in January 2020, offers modern academic education and professional training for diplomats working in the MFEA. Taking into account the needs of Slovenian diplomacy and the dynamics of the international environment, diplomatic training focuses on the transfer of theory into practice, practical examples and experience. In addition to the basic training for the compulsory diplomatic exams, it provides training in diplomatic skills, current diplomatic topics and specific training modules – the EU Presidency, humanitarian and environmental diplomacy and others.
