The Priority Action Division

At a press conference held on Tuesday, 29 October 2024, the Minister of Labour, Luka Mesec, and the Chief Inspector, Katja Čoh-Kragolnik, presented the Priority Response Sector, headed by Nina Kurnik Avbelj.

The Chief Inspector stressed that the Sector is a key reinforcement of the efforts of the Labour Inspectorate of the Republic of Slovenia. The new sector will allow for faster, more targeted and effective inspections in cases where the rights of (a large number of) workers are at stake or where the public interest is at stake. The main advantage will be to take immediate action where it is most needed - whether as a result of whistleblowing, risk analysis or other indicators pointing to systemic violations of workers' rights.

The sector will be staffed by experienced inspectors who have been carrying out inspections in the regional units for many years. They will now focus their knowledge and experience to tackle the most pressing cases quickly and efficiently. The Head of the Sector, Nina Kurnik Avbelj, and her team will ensure a strong and proactive response to serious breaches of labour law.

Nina Kurnik Avbelj said: "The Sector will play a key role in the swift detection and remedying of labour rights violations. Our strength lies in our professional team, which already has many years of experience and extensive knowledge in both labour relations and occupational health and safety."

Cooperation with the regional units and other institutions will be key to our success. We recognise that speed and accuracy in action are essential, and we will deal consistently and thoroughly with cases where workers' rights are at stake. Our aim is to improve labour market conditions in the long term and to protect workers from systemic violations.
