Discussion on the protection of nuclear facilities in armed conflicts held in Ljubljana

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia organised an international expert event on the protection of nuclear facilities in armed conflicts to examine whether existing international legal norms and political commitments sufficiently address the issue of security and protection.

Participants discussed whether and how existing international commitments could be strengthened. We at the Ministry believe that the issue of protection of nuclear facilities in crisis situations requires greater attention in the light of existing conflicts, as we do not want to see a nuclear incident.

As a responsible advocate of peace and security and as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2024-2025 term, Slovenia devotes special attention to new security threats that may have devastating and irreversible consequences for humanity.
