Prime Minister Golob: "The team and fighting spirit you embody are a life lesson for us all"

Prime Minister Robert Golob attended the Evening of the Stars, the closing event at which the Slovenian Cycling Federation presented awards to the best female and male cyclists of 2024.

In his address, the Prime Minister praised the outstanding achievements of Slovenian cyclists in 2024 and in previous seasons. "You have achieved phenomenal success in recent years," he said. "The world's oldest wheel, more than 5,200 years old, has been found here in the vicinity. I am sure we have had good cyclists before, but Slovenia has never had cyclists like you, and because of you, everyone knows us," the Prime Minister paid tribute to the cyclists.

He went on to say that the successes of Slovenian cyclists, as well as other Slovenian athletes, are respected on a global scale. "This year has been a fantastic year for sport – the Olympic and Paralympic Games, football, basketball, handball, climbing and other sports. Be it heads of state or sports enthusiasts, everyone always thinks of Slovenians," he stressed.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the other aspects of Slovenian cyclists' commitment to sport. "You are an inspiration to young people, not only because of your sporting lifestyle, but also because you give back to society," he said, adding that the Government actively supports and promotes the sports sector. "The Government is doing its best to give back to you too. Since 2021 we have doubled the funds for sport. For future generations and their success," he said.

The Prime Minister stressed that cycling promotes team spirit. "The team and fighting spirit you embody are more than just a sporting inspiration – they are a life lesson for us all. When we stick together and really fight for a cause we believe in, the sky is the limit and the impossible is possible," concluded Prime Minister Golob, who once again expressed his sincere thanks to the cyclists for their remarkable achievements: "Thank you for being an inspiration to us."
