Prime Minister's courtesy meeting with Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska

Prime Minister Robert Golob met today with the wife of the President of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, and the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Yuliia Svyrydenko. The meeting took place on the day when Ukraine marks a grim milestone of 1000 days since Russia has started its war of aggression against Ukraine.

The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Yuliia Svyrydenko, thanked Prime Minister Golob for the extensive material, humanitarian and other assistance Slovenia has been providing to Ukraine. Mrs Olena Zelenska also expressed her sincere gratitude, highlighting Slovenia's support to the Olena Zelenska Foundation for the reconstruction of the central hospital in Izyum.

Prime Minister Golob began by expressing his deep regret for today's incident at the National and University Library, which is, unfortunately, the result of unacceptable behaviour that has no place in our society. He noted that Slovenia was among the first countries to offer assistance to Ukraine and that it would continue to do so in the future. Most of the funds will continue to be earmarked for humanitarian projects that help those most affected.

The Prime Minister reiterated Slovenia’s support for Ukraine on its path to join the European Union and NATO, stressing that membership of the Alliance is subject to the consent of all NATO nations, and that Slovenia remains a reliable partner and supporter.

Following their meeting, the Memoranda on international medical partnership were signed between the University Medical Centre Ljubljana and the University Medical Centre Maribor and the Ukrainian clinics, which is a fine example of professional cooperation between the central medical institutions in Ukraine and Slovenia. The Memoranda include assistance to Ukrainian healthcare institutions in modernising in line with European standards, exchange of best practices in effective healthcare management, and organisation of joint scientific research conferences and educational events.
