Conclusion of Third Committee of 79th UN General Assembly
A resolution on the human rights treaty body system, proposed by a group of Member States, including Slovenia, was adopted, continuing our commitment to strengthening the supervisory mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of core international human rights treaties.
Slovenia focused on its priority themes, which, in addition to strengthening the human rights treaty body system, include women's rights, the rights of the elderly, children’s rights, including violence against children and children and armed conflict, human rights and the environment, and the abolition of the death penalty. Slovenia participated both in interactive dialogues with UN experts and in the negotiation of resolutions on these issues, also drawing attention to the human rights situation in Myanmar and Afghanistan. The session was also attended by the Slovenian UN Youth Delegate.
The Committee adopted resolutions on the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls, the prevention of child, early and forced marriage, the establishment of a moratorium on the death penalty, the fight against trafficking in women and girls, persons with disabilities, social development, the right to privacy, as well as resolutions on the human rights situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, Syria, Myanmar, Iran, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and on the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.
