Slovenia receives the entire EU Solidarity Fund aid

Slovenia has received the remainder and the bulk of the European Union Solidarity Fund aid intended for recovery and reconstruction following the devastating floods that hit the country in August 2023. The European Commission recently transferred an additional EUR 328.4 million to Slovenia's Ministry of Finance, topping up the EUR 100 million advance payment received at the end of last year.

Dr Aleksander Jevšek, Minister for Cohesion and Regional Development, whose team headed the application process for the assistance from the EU Solidarity Fund, expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the preparation of the application. "I would like to thank the European Commission for its unwavering support. I am particularly grateful to the staff working in local communities and all the departments who contributed to gathering the necessary data and preparing the application for financial assistance. Slovenia has received a total of EUR 428.4 million in grants, exceeding the initial promise made by the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during her visit to Slovenia in the immediate aftermath of the floods. The country must now implement the planned post-flood recovery measures within 18 months.  Many of them are already underway or completed. Within two years, we will need to prepare an implementation report and submit it to the European Commission," concluded Minister Jevšek.
