Construction of Slovenian Centre for Fighting Large Fires in the Natural Environment

In December, construction work on the Slovenian Centre for Large Fires in the Natural Environment was completed in Sežana to facilitate a greater number of activities and firefighting training events. This is an investment in social and economic resilience to climate-related natural disasters in Slovenia – SLO SERCID.

The Slovenian Centre for Large Fires in Natural Environment in Sežana represents a complete new project. The basement of the building houses a garage for six large fire-fighting vehicles. Offices to coordinate the protection and rescue system will occupy the first floor. The construction of Slovenian Centre for Fighting Large Fires in Natural Environment also marks the beginning of firefighter training for extinguishing large fires in natural environment.

The Centre is part of a learning process with a continuous educational programme and plays an important role in combatting large fires.

The total project value is EUR 3.1 million, of which EUR 1.8 million was from EU funding grants as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The technical inspection of the facility has already been carried out and a procedure for obtaining an operating permit is currently underway, whereupon the investment project will be completed in 2024.
