Prime Minister Golob: "I am grateful for all you have given to our society"
During his visit to Maribor, the Prime Minister first greeted the nursing home’s residents, staff, and Director, Marko Slavič. In his address, he emphasised his particularly wish to visit the Danica Vogrinec Home. On this occasion, he also invited Alfi Nipič, a legendary Slovenian musician, whose performance enlivened the daily routine of the residents and brought them festive joy.
The Prime Minister went on to pay tribute to the residents and the staff who care for their well-being. "I am grateful to all of you residents for all that you have given to our society. My visit is a sign of my respect for you. I am also grateful to all of you who take care of them, ensuring they are in really good hands," said Prime Minister Golob, as he wished everyone a happy holiday season.
In a press statement following the visit, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of the work done by the staff and management of the home. “The purpose of my visit is to show respect to all the staff and management who selflessly and dedicatedly care for the older generation – those who built the society we live in today."
He added that the Government’s pay reform represents an important step forward, aiming to demonstrate respect for all employees and reflect this in their remuneration. "I believe that the pay reform will, on the one hand, make it clear that their work is valued and, on the other hand, establish a public sector reward system that will allow us to reward those who give even more," he added.
The Prime Minister also highlighted discussions with the Director of the home, Marko Slavič, addressing many topics, including the problems that have persisted since the coronavirus pandemic. "The financial situation at the Danica Vogrinec Home is worse today than it could have been if the problems had been dealt with according to needs and expectations during the pandemic," the Prime Minister’s commented. He added that he would advocate for an amicable settlement of the lawsuit regarding unpaid pandemic-related costs by the health insurance company. "After all, these are two entities, both serving the public interest, and I believe that we will find a solution that is acceptable and beneficial for both sides," he stated.
The Prime Minister pointed out that during the pandemic, the survival of the residents depended on the management of nursing homes. "If anywhere, it was here at the Danica Vogrinec Home that management demonstrated its true value during the pandemic. That is why we must listen all the more to those who excelled then, when they highlight the challenges and difficulties facing the sector today," concluded Prime Minister Robert Golob.
Prime Minister Golob then met with the Director of the Public Inter-Municipal Housing Fund Maribor, Irena Španinger. She presented the Prime Minister with an overview of the Housing Fund's operations, the challenges it faces and the vision for development through planned projects. The discussion focused on the Government's proposed measures in housing policy, which aim to strengthen the development potential of local housing funds.
