Knowledge has prevailed. Investment in innovation and development has significantly increased, more enrolment places in critical professions have been made available and scholarships are now more accessible. Solidarity has prevailed. The long-term care project is underway, affordable health insurance has been preserved and pensions have seen record increases. Prudence has prevailed. Exceptionally low inflation, near full employment and stable economic growth demonstrate that Slovenia is in strong shape.

In 2024, Slovenia achieved global success. In sports, through prestigious cycling victories, an outstanding performance at the European Football Championship and Olympic medals in Paris. In the economy, through substantial investments by major foreign companies in manufacturing within Slovenia. In the arts and sciences, through the accomplishments of both individuals and institutions. And on the international political stage: Slovenia ranked an impressive eighth in the latest Good Country Index, placing it among the world's top contributors to global peace and development.

Equipped with fairness, knowledge, solidarity and prudence, Slovenia is ready to succeed again in 2025. Continuing the health reform, implementing tax changes, designing a pension reform and completing post-flood reconstruction are just a few of the tasks ahead. At the same time, tackling a wide array of global challenges will require our sustained efforts.

Yet the most meaningful and cherished victories for each of us are often the small, personal ones: lending a hand in times of need, embracing loved ones, sharing laughter with friends, witnessing our children grow, and enjoying health and optimism. These are the victories of the heart that make life richer and more beautiful. My wish and commitment for the New Year is this: may Slovenia continue to grow into a society where everyone – without exception, exclusion, hostility or prejudice – becomes a true winner of the heart.
