Ambassador Mirošič on a visit in Colorado state

Ambassador Iztok Mirošič visited Colorado state between January 22 - 24, 2025, where he officially inaugurated consulate of the Republic of Slovenia. He met with Colorado Governor Jared Polis at the State Capitol in Denver and members of the Colorado National Guard. He also visited the headquarters of the U.S. Space Command in Colorado Springs, town of Pueblo and toured the Pueblo Community College.

Official inauguration of the Consulate of the Republic of Slovenia in Colorado

On January 23, Ambassador Mirošič officially inaugurated the Consulate of the Republic of Slovenia in Denver, Colorado. U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Laura Clellan, The Adjutant General of Colorado was also present at the event. Since April 2024, the Consulate has been led by Honorary Consul Mrs. Tamara Gorenc and serving as a key contact point for Slovenians residing in the state of Colorado, USA. To mark the occasion, Honorary Consul Gorenc hosted a reception bringing together members of the Slovenian community, representatives of local authorities, and representatives of the Colorado National Guard, including Ronald Michael Sega, former American astronaut of Slovenian descent. In addition to Ambassador Mirošič, the attendees were addressed by Colorado's Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera, Commander Clellan and Honorary Consul Gorenc. Meeting with Colorado Governor Jared Polis and visit to town of Pueblo 

Ambassador Mirošič met with Colorado Governor Jared Polis at the State Capitol in Denver. Their discussions centered on strengthening cooperation between the Republic of Slovenia and the state of Colorado, particularly in the fields of science and space technology. Additionally, delegation of Slovenian companies in space industry will be visiting Space Symposium conference in Colorado Springs in April.

Ambassador also visited the town of Pueblo, where he met with members of the local Slovenian community - descendants of Slovenian immigrants from the late 19th century. During his visit he toured Pueblo Community College and the Gorsich Advanced Technology Center on campus, named in the honor of the late Fritz Gorsich. The event was also attended by Colorado Governor Jared Polis, Pueblo Mayor Heather Graham, and other prominent members of the Slovenian community, including former Pueblo Mayor Nick Gradisar, who is of Slovenian descent.

Meeting with the Colorado National Guard and visit to the U.S. Space Command - SPACECOM

During his visit to Colorado, Ambassador Mirošič met with members of the Colorado National Guard, who provided an overview of the Guard’s structure and operations, highlighting its strong and well-established cooperation with Slovenia. Ambassador also visited the headquarters of the U.S. Space Command (SPACECOM) in Colorado Springs. Following a briefing on SPACECOM’s operations, the Ambassador emphasized Slovenia’s growing space sector and its unique strengths. He noted that Slovenia’s accession to the Artemis Accords in 2024 could open new opportunities for collaboration, particularly in the civilian space domain and defense-related space activities.
