Slovenia welcomes the decision of the Arab countries

Slovenia welcomes the decision by Arab countries to adopt a comprehensive plan for Gaza’s reconstruction at the extraordinary Arab summit in Cairo on 4th March 2025. This important step demonstrates a strong and unified Arab commitment, with genuine Arab ownership of the process and a clear focus on safeguarding the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights, including the right to self-determination, to their land, and ultimately to statehood.

We commend the plan’s strong emphasis on fostering Palestinian ownership and leadership, a transitional technocratic administration, and a clear role for the Palestinian Authority. It is a critical step toward Palestinians taking charge of their own destiny. While welcoming the ongoing efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the USA, it is imperative that the ceasefire endures, that humanitarian aid continues—including the provision of water and electricity—and that humanitarian workers are allowed access to Gaza. The ceasefire will lay the groundwork for meaningful progress in rebuilding Gaza and paving the way toward statehood.

We strongly condemn terrorism and the detention of hostages by Hamas. We also strongly oppose any relocation of Palestinians, considering it a grave violation of international law.

Slovenia remains convinced that international engagement will be indispensable in turning these efforts into concrete outcomes. We therefore call on donor countries and regional partners to significantly step up their political and financial commitments in support of the plan. Only by working together—and by ensuring robust Palestinian ownership at every stage—can we hope to create a more stable and hopeful future for all. Slovenia stands ready to contribute with humanitarian assistance and the deployment of technical expertise in fields where we can offer added value. Furthermore, we will continue to extend robust political support for the implementation of the two-state solution, in which a secure and viable State of Palestine exists side by side with the State of Israel in peace and security.

We trust that by working together in a spirit of solidarity and shared responsibility, the region can move closer to sustainable peace and a brighter future for all.
