The North Atlantic Council visited KFOR and NALT
Led by the NATO Secretary General, Mr Mark Rutte, and the NATO Deputy Secretary General, Ms Radmila Shekerinska, Allied Ambassadors and KFOR troop-contributing partners, held in-depth discussions with the KFOR Commander, Major General Enrico Barduani, and the Director of the NALT, Brigadier General Christian Nawrat.
The NAC visit also included an exchange of views with the Heads of Mission of the European Union, and the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) as well as the Head of Mission of UNMIK and the Acting Head of Mission of OSCE. Ambassador Dr Benedejčič also met with the Slovenian troops and representatives serving in KFOR and NALT, conveying gratitude for their important service.
KFOR remains the longest and currently the largest NATO mission that continues to contribute to a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement in Kosovo. At the forefront of the consultations were the security situation in the north of Kosovo, including in the context of the current geopolitical environment, and the importance of the normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.
Ambassador Dr Andrej Benedejčič, Slovenia's Permanent Representative to NATO, welcomed the NAC visit as a demonstration of the close engagement with the Western Balkans region. He underscored Slovenia’s strong commitment to the stability and security of Kosovo and the wider region as evidenced also by Slovenia‘s notable contribution to KFOR and NALT. He expressed strong support for the EU-led Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and highlighted the importance of the implementation of the agreements reached.
On the occasion of the visit, Ambassador Dr Andrej Benedejčič also met with the president of Kosovo, Ms Vjosa Osmani.
